Challenge Release Workshops

Challenge Release Workshops (CRW) are intended to help new teams get off to a good start for the Challenge. These workshops will cover the game, the project, team organization, core values, and strategies for new teams. A full field setup will be available. Each team will receive a printed color copy of the Challenge documentation. Coaches, mentors, students and parents are welcome to attend.

Note: Coaches of teams that receive Rockwell Collins New FLL Team Grants are required to attend either a coach and/or teacher training workshop or a challenge release workshop.

Event Types

Community Events (also called Practice Events, formerly called Local Events)

Each team is encouraged to attend a Community Event prior to attending a Qualifying Event. A team may attend more than one Community Event if space is available at each event, i.e., no team that only applied for a single Community Event is on any of the Wait Lists. Registration for most fall Community Events will be open October 1-15, 2011.

Payment instructions are available for each community event by clicking on the Event Description link above.

For the 10/22 Eagle Rock Plaza FLL Tournament and the 11/5 El Segundo FLL Tournament, the tournament registration fee may be made by check payable to "Los Angeles Robotics" or by Credit Card (via PayPal), due by 10/20/2011. Mail checks to:

Qualifying Events

Teams may only attend one Los Angeles Region FLL qualifying event. Teams that attend qualifying events or championship events in other regions are not eligible to attend Los Angeles Region FLL qualifying events. Registration for Qualifying Events will be open October 1-15, 2011. When you register for the California-Los Angeles FLL Qualifying Tournaments, you will be able to specify your first, second and third choice events from the following list.

Qualifying Tournament Registration Fee

After registration closes on October 15, teams that have paid the tournament registration fee will be matched to events based on their event choices, with priority being given to teams hosting events but not attending their own events, teams that received grants, and teams with limited choices because of religious restrictions, etc. Travel distance, the order of payment and the order of registration will also be considered for events that are oversubscribed.

Teams that received FIRST Team Hardship or Rockwell Collins grants will have their qualifying tournament registration fees paid by another grant. Teams supported by Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) and Pleasant Valley Education Foundation (PVEF) will have their fees paid directly by those organizations.

For other teams, payment of the $60 qualifying tournament registration fee may be made by check payable to "Los Angeles Robotics" or by Credit Card (via PayPal), due by 10/20/2011. Mail checks to:

By invitation only. Approximately 25% of teams from each Qualifying Event will advance to the Championship Event.
