Los Angeles Region FIRST® LEGO® League (LARFLL)
Ambassador Teams

The purpose of the Ambassador Team program is to identify and recognize teams with outstanding enthusiasm for, and understanding of, the FLL program and values. Ambassador Teams must be willing and able to represent FLL to the general public and to assist in growing and sustaining Los Angeles Region FLL. Ambassador Team duties may include mentoring other teams and publicizing FLL by attending outreach opportunities such as presentations to potential sponsors, conferences, demonstrations, exhibitions or other public events.

One Ambassador Team will be selected to be the Los Angeles Region FLL Values Nominee Team for one of the 10 to15 FLL Values slots at FLL World Festival. Final selection of FLL Values teams invited to the World Festival is made by FIRST.

Only teams attending the Los Angeles Region FLL Championship Tournament are eligible to be Ambassador Teams. Ambassador Teams and the FLL Values Nominee Team will be selected and announced at the Championship from teams that have submitted applications in advance. Ambassador Teams will hold that title for one calendar year. Ambassador Teams may reapply each year.

Teams that wish to be considered for selection as Ambassador Teams must submit an application, which consists of an essay of 500 words or less. Selected teams that submitted applications will be interviewed at the Championship. Candidates will be judged based on:

• How well the team exhibits FLL values and understands the FLL program
• The team’s ability to be a positive and enthusiastic representative for FLL
• The ability of team members to express themselves clearly in a positive manner

Ambassador Team Selection Process

0. Teams qualify for the FLL Los Angeles Region FLL Championship Tournament by advancing from a Los Angeles Region FLL Qualifying Tournament.
0. Teams determine whether they are willing and able to act as a Los Angeles Region FLL Ambassador Team from January 1 until December 31 in the year following their selection.
0. Teams complete the Los Angeles Region FLL Ambassador Team Application. Combined essay responses in the application should not exceed 500 words.
0. Teams submit completed applications by email to FLL@LARFLL.org at least three days before the Championship.
0. Judges review the applications and select teams to be interviewed. Selected teams will have demonstrated that they have a good understanding of the FLL Core Values and are interested in sharing their enthusiasm and experiences with others.
0. Teams will be notified when they check-in at the Championship if they are scheduled for an interview.
0. Judges at the Championship will meet with advancing teams for an interview.
0. Near the end of the Awards Ceremony, judges will announce the teams selected to be Ambassador Teams and the Ambassador Team selected to be the Los Angeles Region FLL Values Nominee Team.
   In order to let as many teams as possible participate in post-season events, Los Angeles Region Champion’s Award winning teams who are eligible to advance to either the World Festival or to another Open Championship such as the United States Open Championship may not also be the Los Angeles Region FLL Values Nominee Team.
0. If the Team selected as the FLL Values Nominee Team is not willing and able to attend the FLL World Festival, one of the other Ambassador Teams will be selected to replace them.
0. The Los Angeles Region FLL Operational Partner will submit the nomination for the FLL Values Nominee Team to attend the FLL World Festival.
0. FIRST will select 10-15 FLL Values Teams to attend the FLL World Festival from nominations submitted by regions around the world.
0. Teams selected to attend the FLL World Festival will receive invitations from FIRST by the end of February.
0. If the Los Angeles Region FLL Values Nominee Team is invited to attend the FLL World Festival, Los Angeles Region FLL will pay the team’s registration fee ($1,000.00).
