Judging at FLL Tournaments
Robot Performance (25% of total score)
The Robot Game is the most visible activity at the tournament. Robot performance matches will alternate between pairs of competition tables. Two teams play simultaneously for each match. Matches last 2 1/2 minutes as teams try to complete as many of the Challenge missions as possible. Each team has one practice round and three performance rounds. Only the highest of the three performance round scores counts towards the Robot Performance Award. Teams can make robot and program modifications in the pit area between rounds.
Project Judging (25% of total score)
Teams are usually asked to complete three tasks: Conduct research about the theme, e.g., Smart Move; propose a solution based on research findings; and share findings and solution with others in the community.
Robot Design Judging (25% of total score)
Each team will have an 8-10 minute interactive interview with a panel of technical judges. The judges will evaluate the technical hurdles the team faced in their design, the innovativeness and consistency of the robot they designed, and the effectiveness and complexity of the programs developed for the robot.
Teamwork Judging (25% of total score)
The Teamwork and FLL Values judging evaluates a team’s organization, dynamics, enthusiasm, helpfulness, respect for teammates, and support and encouragement for other teams. Teams will have a 5-10 minute interactive interview with teamwork judges in the pit area. Teamwork judges will also be observing teams during the event.
